Regardless of which holiday you observe this year-end season, gift exchanges are part of the traditions. Giving books to young and old alike is a thoughtful way to offer enjoyable distractions from their daily lives.

GIFT GIVING

In keeping with the holiday gift-giving spirit….

For our readers who have enjoyed Pablo’s Matson’s Case No. 1, we have put together a boxed set of Matson’s Cases 2, 3, and 4 at a reduced price over the cost of each book bought separately. Each of the Matson series offers historical narrative about events in and around New York City in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Pablo uses his forensic knowledge to add realism to each story.

If you haven’t visited our website recently, we would like to suggest a completely different historical fiction – We Walk on Ash – an intriguing story set in Japan just after the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. In the midst of that carnage, a father and daughter were elevated to a spiritual plane where they embarked on a mission to find the god of evil and destroy him before he can destroy more of the world.

And remember to “gift” yourself one of our books, too!

FIVE STAR REVIEWS

If asked to describe Legends of Lake Nebagamon, I would quickly – and seriously – call it “the most beautiful and sensitive eulogy I have ever read or heard.” —Keith Molin

Animal Court – interesting concept putting a representative human on trial. I would have found him guilty long before, but then there would have been no story. Wildlife is one of my passions, and I have been lucky to enough to see many wonderful creatures up close. – Heather Kemp, Cape Town, South Africa

I have read The Kokomo Railroad and think it is one of the most remarkable [nonfiction] books I’ve read for years. Absolutely shocking in its unblinking confrontation of small minds in positions of power. Thank you for writing it. – Heather Kemp

The title – We Walk on Ash – and opening made me think initially that this was a retelling of the Hiroshima story from the point of view of a resident of the city. Then the harp music sounded, and I found myself transported to a fantasy world. I enjoyed it. In a way, it reminded me of Grimm’s Fairy Tales for grownups or the Arabian Nights with their djinns and fantastic happenings. – Heather Kemp

Who can write a comprehensive yet lucid story of Miami and the Cuban immigrants: La Bodeguita – The Little Market? Award-winning author Pablo Zaragoza. Only he has the talent, wit, range, and insights to pull off this daring and provocative, inspiring and enlightening book. – A. Vizoso

Zaragoza and Giffin’s writing style deserves commendation for its incredible realism. The palpable tension as characters hang onto every word from the radio and the meticulously detailed battle scenes make the reader feel ensconced within the narrative. Brazzaville: A Casablanca Sequel interweaves adrenaline-pumping action with heart-tugging emotion, a balance that is all too rare. The introduction of fresh faces to the narrative feels organic, enriching the plot without overshadowing established characters. For fans of the classic film, as well as enthusiasts of action tales, this novel promises an exhilarating journey. – Literary Titan

WISHING YOU . . .

…a wonderful holiday season. Fill it with happy memories, family, friends, and love. Love is the most important gift we can give. It doesn’t cost much, just a smile, a hug, and a hello to a stranger or a family member you haven’t seen in a while. That gift of caring may be all that a person needs to get him or her through this season of joy. Remember that not everyone has the gifts that you have: the love of family and friends.

I saw a woman at the Wal-Mart the other day. She was a greeter but with the saddest face. I asked her to smile, and she told me she had no reason to smile. Her family had done something to her, and she wasn’t in the spirit of the season. I hugged her and told her it would be all right. She smiled and said, “Thank you.”

Those are the little gifts of kindness we can each give because those are the ones that matter. Have a wonderful joyous season.
